To my beloved children...
My sweet Callie. I love that you "voted" for Hillary. I love that you saw a girl on TV and you believed that one day, YOU could be President of this great country. You may not know or understand the difference in the political parties just yet but I admire your stance that you took this election. You are loved and supported no matter what. You are free to feel, free to say what's on your heart, free to fail, free to succeed, free to be YOU because I only made one Callie Monroe Matwijec. I want you to stay strong always but more importantly, I want you to come to me when you can't do it all. Know that I will step in and I will carry you through anything because you are my baby girl. I don't care what you've done, I will be there for you. I will never leave you.
My handsome Cooper. I love that you "voted" for Mr. Trump. I love that you saw a successful man on TV fighting for what he believes in. I love that your candidate won because I know how much you wanted him to win. I know you probably voted him because he is most like you in that he is a man. That's what you see. You may not know policies or what Mr. Trump believes in fully but I love that you know YOU can be the President of the United States of America someday. You are loved and supported no matter what. You are free to feel, free to speak, free to cry, free to fail, free to succeed, and free to be YOU because I only made one Cooper James Matwijec. Be bold but know you can come to me in weakness and never feel ashamed, guilty, or neglected. I will always love you no matter what. I will never abandon you.
My children, I love each one of you for who YOU are and will become. There is nothing in this world that will change my love for you. Even when you feel far away, you are always on my mind. I love all of your differences. I love the way you think and I take joy in you. I love that even though there are differences, you all resemble my children. Even if you don't love me back, I will always always love you.
You may have read above as I am talking to my five kids. I am. But so is God. Reread it as the Father speaking. My point is that God doesn't care who you voted for this election or what stance you should or shouldn't have taken. He just loves you. Don't forget that.
God isn't a republican or a democrat. He isn't right or left. Stop the hate. Both sides. I have heard people make reference to the country now being able to be "one nation under God." It always has been. Nothing changed that except the way you feel in your heart. I recently read a post that "God showed up" at the polls. God has always been there. He's never left us. He'll never abandon His children. I read "God will bless America again." God never stopped blessing America. God is not up there moving us around like chess pieces. We are actually free to make our own choices and the blessings are there whether we want access to them or not. He's not an angry God. He doesn't "give and take away." Even though my kids really have no idea about political parties or even if they did know, it doesn't matter. I still love them. That's how God feels about us. Stop turning the election into something God orchestrated. God is a God of free will. We chose Donald Trump as the next President of the United States. If we had chosen Hillary, God would still continue to bless America. He's not leaving us and saying "good luck with all that down there." Why, because He loves us. All of us.
